How It Happened

Elms scored the first goal of 2022 when senior Hunter Miket (Torrington, Conn.) collected a blocked ball in the box and deposited the ball past senior Collin Robson (North Billerica, Mass.) for the early lead. Junior Michael Dima (Oxford, Conn.) collected the assist.

The Blazers doubled the lead at the 7:18 mark, senior Alex Szarkowski (Belchertown, Mass.) found classmate Musa Jiana (Chicopee, Mass.) for the 2-0 advantage.

Freshmen Liam Evans (Marshfield, Mass.) had the best chance for the Falcons in the first frame, the streaking forward was stopped by Elms netminder Collin Liedke (Newington, Conn.) on the breakaway.

Following the intermission, Fitchburg State threatened in the 56th minute of play with freshman Michael Vazquez-Guaman (Worcester, Mass.) ripped a shot on target, but Liedke denied the chance to keep the score at 2-0.

The Green and Gold's best scoring chance of the second half occurred with 15 minutes remaining in regulation as newcomer Curtis Thomas (Worcester, Mass.) was awarded a penalty kick. Liedke made a sprawling save to his right however to give the Blazers a 2-0 victory.
