Buzzards Bay, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie with the Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime Academy this evening in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Clean Harbors Stadium.

The Basics

Score: Fitchburg State 1, Mass. Maritime 1
Records: Fitchburg State (0-3-1, 0-0-1 MASCAC) | Mass. Maritime (1-4-1, 0-0-1 MASCAC)

How It Happened

Mass. Maritime took the lead midway through the first half when freshman Luke Twomey (Marshfield, Mass.) received a feed from sophomore Ethan Somers (Boston, Mass.) and deposited a shot into the back of the net for his first collegiate tally for the 1-0 edge.

Following the break, Fitchburg State knotted the score at 1-1 in the 71st minute of action with newcomer Juan Sambrano (Burlington, Mass.) firing a shot inside the near post for his first collegiate maker as sophomore Gabriel Teixeira (Lunenburg, Mass.) assisted on the play.

The Falcons nearly broke the 1-1 stalemate at the 87:51 mark with freshman Curtis Thomas (Worcester, Mass.) blasted a shot on frame, but Buccaneers keeper Quinn Kelly (West Roxbury, Mass.) turned the shot aside.

The Buccaneers best scoring opportunity came in the winding seconds as sophomore Connor Malone (Norwell, Mass.) settled a corner kick and put a shot on goal only to have Falcons goalkeeper Collin Robson (North Billerica, Mass.) make the stop to preserve the 1-1 draw.
