Field Hockey Upset in Semifinals by Bears
FITCHBURG, MA: The 5th-seeded Bears of Bridgewater State upset the top-seeded Fitchburg State field hockey team this evening in the MASCAC Semifinals.
THE BASICS:
- Date: 11/7/24
- Score: Bridgewater 1, Fitchburg 0
- Records: Bridgewater (10-10), Fitchburg (10-9)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Bears got the scoring started in the first quarter just 5:39 in. Madison Ellis would find herself out of the arc on the right side, looking in for a teammate. She would find her favorite option in Abbie Zuber, who was open in the middle of the arc. Zuber would gather the pass turn and fire a shot to the bottom right of the cage for the first score and only score.
- The Falcons couldn't seem to put anything together offensively, but their defense kept them in the game. Senior defenders Sydney Alto (Chelmsford, MA), Riley O'Brien (Townsend, MA), and Madison Araujo (Stoughton, MA) all played solid games, keeping the Bears from scoring on any of their eight penalty corners.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Jenna Morse (Leominster, MA) suffered the loss (8-7-1) after allowing just the one goal. She turned away eight other shots.
- Brianna Gagnon will get the win (9-10) after completing the shutout and making seven saves.
- Shots: Fitchburg 12, Bridgewater 10
