Ice Hockey Skates Past Pilgrim in Season Opener
FITCHBURG, MA: Fitchburg State ice hockey opened its season this evening with a win against New England College (NEC).
THE BASICS:
- Date: 11/1/24
- Score: Fitchburg 3, NEC 1
- Records: Fitchburg (1-0), NEC (0-1)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- It was a slow start for both teams, with very few shots during the first period. The Falcons made the most of their opportunities as they got on the board 15 minutes into the first period. Elowan Orme Lynch (Courbevoie, France) made his presence known in his first game in the green and gold. He was helped by his brother Matteo Orme Lynch and Trenton Skaggs (Oconomowoc, WI).
- NEC would knot it up in the second period on a power play three minutes in. Vesse-Wincen Lampen netted the only goal for the Pilgrims. Fitchburg would bounce back and take the lead back at 8:05 into the second when Elowan Orme Lynch and Alexandre Bauvais (Meudon, France) found Jack Johansen (Milford, NH) open in front of the net.
- The final score of the night came in the closing seconds of a Falcons power play. Hunter Dunn (Douglas, MA) took a wrist shot from inside the right circle to beat the Pilgrim tender. Dunn's goal was made possible by excellent puck movement by Johansen and Michael Imala (Oak Lawn, IL).
