Men's Soccer Falls to Owls in MASCAC Semifinals

WESTFIELD, MA: #3 Fitchburg State men's soccer fell to the #2 Owls of Westfield State this evening in the MASCAC Semifinals.   

THE BASICS:

- Date: 11/8/24

- Score: Westfield 4, Fitchburg 2

- Records: Westfield (8-6-5), Fitchburg (9-8-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  The Owls got on the board first in the 15th minute. Coleby Andrade would find the back of the net after a free kick from 30 yards out, finding another Owls head before finding Andrade's foot. Westfield would add on another in the 23rd minute after Tim Tkacz would kick a sky ball into the air, when it finally came down it found the head of Ethan Margolis, who beat the Falcon keeper low and to the right.  

- Fitchburg would bring the score to within one after a PK was awarded to Zachariah Foster (Brockton, MA), who would then hit his fifth PK of the season to get the halftime score of 1-2 in the Owls favor.

- The second half would start with Westfield striking again on an impressive goal from Andrade. He would find the back of the net again, this time with a header off of a deep cross from Margolis. Fitchburg would again bring it back within one in the 76th minute on a deep shot from 30 yards out by Michael Vazquez (Worcester, MA). His shot would travel all the way to beat the keeper just below the crossbar.

- Westfield would, however, put in another to secure the 4-2 victory. This time, it was from Carter Hebert, who would settle another long free kick just to the right of the goal that would find its way into the net.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Alexander Carvalho (N. Providence, RI) would be tagged with the loss as he concludes his season with a record of 4-3-2. In this one, he made five saves and surrendered the four goals.

-  Luke Theroux would get the win in net, putting him at 7-4-4 on the year. He saw six shots on goal, making four saves and surrendering two goals.

-  Shots: Westfield 20, Fitchburg 16
