Bridgewater, Mass.– The Fitchburg State University football team dropped an-82-0 decision to the Bears of Bridgewater State this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Swenson Field.

How It Happened

Bridgewater State opened the scoring at the 11:32 mark of the first quarter as senior James Cahoon (Buzzards Bay, Mass.) found sophomore Jack McCarthy (Braintree, Mass.) for a 42-yard touchdown for the 7-0 lead.

The Bears doubled its lead (14-0) three minutes later when senior William Pointer (Milford, Mass.) ran it into the endzone from seven yards out. The hosts would up the lead to 28-0 later in the first quarter with senior Michael Nocera (Cumberland, R.I.) hauled in a seven-yard pass from Cahoon.

Bridgewater State pushed the lead to 48-0 with 1:16 remaining in the half with Nocera pulling down a 24 -ard touchdown reception.

Following the intermission, the Bears secured the victory with just over three minutes left in the third quarter as Pointer ran it in from five yards out.

Inside the Numbers

This afternoon's contest marks the 37th matchup between the Falcons and the Bears on the Gridiron with Fitchburg State 8-29 all-time when taking on Bears.

Offensively for the Falcons, junior Logan Wilson (Woburn, Mass.) finished 3-of-11 for 47 yards, while classmate Elijah Zaire McKnight (Tracy, Calif.) hauled in three passes for 40 yards. Senior Frank Sims IV (Peabody, Mass.) rushed 15 times for 40 yards.

For the Bears, Cahoon went 9-for-12 for 199 yards and six TD's, while senior Adam Couch (Leominster, Mass.) added 119 rushing yards on 12 attempts.

Defensively, freshman linebacker Camren Topkin (Ledyard, Conn.) registered seven tackles on three solo stops and four assisted tackles, while junior Giancarlo Marazzo-Henry (Cambridge, Mass.) added six total tackles (4 solo, two assisted),

For Bridgewater State, senior Steven Silvia (Dighton, Mass.) led the way with six tackles on three solo tackles and three assisted stops and 1.5 TFL's, while classmate James Fontaine (East Grand Forks, Minn.) registered six tackles (4 solo, two assisted).
