Fitchburg, Mass. The Fitchburg State ice hockey team registered a 3-2 overtime victory over the Eagles of Post University in non-conference action from the Wallace Civic Center this afternoon.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State opened the scoring at the 7:36 mark as junior Jeremy Maillet (Leominster, MA) settled a feed from senior Oliver Cookson (Sheffield, MA) and buried a shot into the right side of the net for his first tally of the 2024 campaign for the 1-0 edge.

Post knotted the score with 40 seconds remaining in the first frame when junior Jake Aloi (East Haven, CT) received a pass from freshman Owen Atkinson (Haverhill, MA) and junior Jacob Howell (Derry, NH) and found the back of the net for his first tally on the season to make the score 1-1.

In the middle stanza, the Eagles took the lead six minutes into the stanza when Atkinson gathered a feed from Howell and deposited a shot inside the lower right corner for his first collegiate marker for the 2-1 edge.

In the third period of play, the Falcons tied the contest at 2-2 with just over five minutes remaining in the stanza as junior Trenton Skaggs (Oconomowoc, WI) collected a loose puck in front of the net and tucked a shot into the right side of the net for his first tally on the year with assists from Maillet and junior Nicholas Weber (Peoria, AZ).

In the overtime period, the Green and Gold secured the victory 3:45 into the extra frame when senior Christian Halbig (Queenstown, MD) received a feed from Maillet and sophomore Hunter Dunn (Douglas, MA) and put a shot into the back of the net for his first score of the season, resulting in the 3-2 final.
