Falcons Finish Third At MASCAC Championships
Bourassa qualifies for All-NE's in the javelin & discus
Westfield, MA – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track & field team placed third overall at the 2024 MASCAC Outdoor Track & Field Championships with a total of 97 points this afternoon, hosted by Westfield State.

How It Happened
Sophomore Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) led the way for the Falcons, taking top honors in the javelin with an All-New England qualifying throw of 63.07 meters as well as qualifying for All-NE's in the discus with a second place toss of 45.75 meters. In addition, Liam finished fourth in the shot put with a mark of 13.01 meters and second in the hammer throw with a personal best and DIII New England qualifying toss of 50.15 meters.
Senior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, MA) was also solid for the Green and Gold, placing first overall in the triple jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 13.09 meters and eighth in the long jump with a jump of 6.19 meters, while sophomore Michael Burns (Worcester, MA) finished second in the 10000 meter with a DIII New England qualifying time and personal best time of 33:36.03.
Junior Cameron Monette (Winchendon, MA) placed fifth in the hammer throw with a personal best and DIII NE qualifying mark of 48.87 meters, while freshman Tyler Kwamo (Auburn, MA) took top honors in the high jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 1.92 meters as well as finishing third overall in the triple jump with a jump of 12.38 meters.
The 4x100 meter relay team of senior Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, MA), freshman Jaiden Madden (Lynn, MA), classmate Derek Tawiah and newcomer Keenan Ansah (Plymouth, MA) turned in a fourth place time of 45.50 seconds, while in the 3000 meter steeple chase, Burns (4th), senior Tyssen LaBombard (Shelburne Falls, MA) (6th) and classmate Andrew Bedard (Rutland, MA) (7th) registered times of 11:20.54, 11:53.93 and 12:10.28.
In the 1500 meter, graduate student Cameron Davis (Gardner, MA) (4:28.95) and junior Cristian Bueno Campos (Lawrence, MA) (4:38.99) placed ninth and tenth, while Ansah placed third in the 400 meter with a time of 51.46 seconds.
Felix (10th) and Madden (17th) turned in times of 11.32 and 12.01 seconds in the 100 meter, while in the 800 meter, newcomer Matt Telson (Everett, MA) (2:05.60) and sophomore Brady Madigan (Ayer, MA) (2:05.74) finished sixth and seventh in the 800 meter.
The 4x800 meter relay team of junior Aidan Cattelan (West Hartford, CT), Madigan, junior Casey LaCombe (South Hadley, MA) and classmate Joshua Leaffer (North Andover, MA) registered a third place time of 9:38.52, while the 4x400 meter relay team of Felix, Telson, Bueno Campos and Ansah turned in a second place time of 3:34.99.
In the field, Monette (12.29M) and freshman John Koutsouoa (Birdsboro, PA) (11.60M) placed seventh and 13th overall in the shotput, while Monette added a 14th place throw of 33.52 meters in the discus.
In the long jump, Ansah finished sixth overall with a mark of 6.37 meters, while Davis rounded out the top Falcons efforts on the day, finishing ninth in the 5000 meter with a time of 18:11.60.
