Falcons Shine At DIII New England Championships
Bourassa & Shimiyimana collect DIII NE honors
South Hadley MA – The Fitchburg State University men's outdoor track & field team placed 22nd at the DIII New England Championships with a total of 14 points this weekend, hosted by Mount Holyoke College.

How It Happened
Sophomore Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) led the way for the Falcons. placing first overall in the javelin with a personal best and All-New England qualifying throw of 66.41 meters as well as finishing 12th in the hammer throw with a toss of 49.33 meters. In addition, Liam finished 12th in the discus (42.64M) and 15th in the shotput (13.04M)/
Senior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, MA) was also solid for the Green and Gold, placing fifth in the triple jump with mark of 13.86 meters to earn DIII New England honors, while sophomore Michael Burns (Worcester, MA) finished 13th in the 10000 meter with a time of 34:01.03.
The 4x100 meter relay team of Shimiyimana, freshman Derek Tewiah, classmate Jaiden Madden (Lynn, MA) and freshman Keenan Ansah (Plymouth, MA) placed 26th overall with at time of 45.48 seconds, while the 4x800 meter relay team of senior Tyssen LaBombard (Shelburne Falls, MA), classmate Andrew Bedard (Rutland, MA), graduate student Cameron Davis (Gardner, MA) and junior Casey LaCombe (South Hadley, MA) turned in a 22nd place time of 9:08.61.
The 4x400 meter relay team of newcomer Matt Telson (Everett, MA), sophomore Brady Madigan (Ayer, MA), Ansah and junior Matthew Radder (West Seneca, NY) finished 22nd overall with a time of 3:42.45 to round out the top Falcon efforts on the day
