How It Happened

1st Quarter

Sophomore Olivia Almeida (Wilmington, Mass) knocked down an opening three-pointer for the Falcons. The Beacons' Sunny Green (Brewster, Mass.) countered with a trey to take a 5-3 lead, but Stephanie Hart (Shirley, Mass.) added a pair at the charity stripe to knot the game at 5-5. Classmate Delany Brown (Billerica, Mass.) added a layup to give the Green and Gold a 7-5 advantage. Green converted a layup and a three-pointer to push the Beacons ahead 14-7 after one frame.

2nd Quarter

Almeida opened the second quarter with another deep ball to cut the deficit to 14-10. UMass Boston countered with 7 straight points from graduate student Meg Dixon (Hanover, Mass.) to extend the lead. Fitchburg State closed out the frame with a three-pointer from Almeida and four points from Juliana Davis (Templeton, Mass.) to trail 34-20 at halftime.

3rd Quarter

Following the intermission, the Beacons upped the lead to 42-22 as Green, and Sibalya Jensen (Portland, Ore.) registered layups before sophomore Rylie Harlow (Hanson, Mass.) hit a jumper and Allison Prentis (Mansfield, Mass) drained a three for Fitchburg State to cut the lead to 44-27. Jenson closed out the quarter with a steal and a layup for the Beacons.

4th Quarter

The Beacons' pushed the score to 51-31 with a 7-2 run to start the fourth period. The Falcons answered back with a three-pointer from Prentis before the visitors secured the victory with five points from the free-throw line.

Inside the Numbers

  • Almeida paced the Falcons with 9 points and five rebounds. Hart finished with a game-high 11 rebounds, two points, two assists, and a steal
  • For the Beacons, Green led the way with a game-high 16 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals.
  • UMASS Boston shot 22-for-58 (37.9%) from the field and (3-for-19) 15.8% from three-point range
  • Fitchburg State finished 13-for-64 (20.3%) overall and (6-for-29) 20.7% for beyond the arc.
