Field Hockey Drops Season Opener to Colby-Sawyer
NEW LONDON, NH: Fitchburg State field hockey suffered an opening day loss to the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer this afternoon in non-conference action.
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Chargers took a 2-0 lead into the half after Abby Olden scored 6:02 into the contest after receiving a pass from Courtney Larson. Olden would add on another in the second quarter that was unassisted.
- The second half started with Olden completing the hat trick 2:28 into the third quarter, making it a 3-0 lead for the hosting squad. With just under two minutes remaining in the third, Cecilia Ponzini would put a tally in the goal column to get the final score of 4-0. Brooke Farquhar was credited with the assist on the Chargers final goal.
- In goal for Colby-Sawyer, Carly Bernard (W, 1-0) got the win after saving all seven shots she faced. For the Falcons, Jenna Morse (Leominster, MA) (L, 0-1) was tagged with the loss after making seven saves of the nine shots she faced. Amber Bates (Agawam, MA) saw her first minutes in her collegiate career this afternoon. She played the second half of the game, where she made three saves on five shots faced.
