Field Hockey Nipped By Cougars In Double Overtime
Morse turns aside 22 shots for Green and Gold
Worcester, Mass. – The Fitchburg State field hockey team dropped a tough 1-0 double overtime decision to the Cougars of Clark University this afternoon in non-conference action from Granger Field.
The Basics
Score: Fitchburg State 0, Clark 1
Records: Fitchburg State (0-3. 0-0 MASCAC) | Clark (2-0, 0-0 NEWMAC)
How It Happened
Fitchburg State nearly opened the scoring in the sixth minute of action as junior Sophia Yates (Woodstock, VT) and freshman Samantha Jones (Uxbridge, MA) put back-to-back shots on frame, but Clark netminder Rachel Reiter (Millburn, NJ) turned aside both attempts to keep the game scoreless.
Following the intermission, Clark threatened with ten minutes remaining in regulation when junior Morgan Brown (Homer, NY) fired a shot on frame only to have Falcon goaltender Jenna Morse (Leominster, MA) deny the scoring opportunity to send the contest into overtime.
After a scoreless first overtime, the Cougars secured the victory at the 76:26 mark with graduate student Greer McCarty (White River Junction, VT) finding the back of the cage for her first tally on the season, resulting in the 1-0 final
