Falcons Crowned Regular Season Champions with Win Over Bridgewater
FITCHBURG, MA: Fitchburg State field hockey clinched the top seed and regular season championship with a win over Bridgewater State this afternoon in MASCAC action.
THE BASICS:
- Date: 11/2/24
- Score: Fitchburg 4, Bridgewater 2
- Records: Fitchburg (10-8, 8-2 MASCAC), Bridgewater (8-10, 4-6 MASCAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Falcons struck first in the 10th minute. Samantha Jones (Uxbridge, MA) redirected a great pass from teammate Riley O'Brien (Townsend, MA) off a penalty corner.
- Fitchburg would add on in the second quarter in the 17th minute. Sophia Yates (Woodstock, VT) would score off of her own rebound just in front of the cage for her 16th goal of the season. The Falcons would continue their success on penalty corners. Their third tally would come off the stick of Samantha Yates (Woodstock, VT), who was in the right spot after a defender tried to play the ball out. She gathered it and let it fly into the bottom right of the net.
- The second half saw the Bears get on the board in the 43rd minute. Taylor Carter found the back of the net off a through ball from Abbie Zuber. Bridgewater would add a second in the 50th minute, cutting the Falcons lead to just one. This time, Zuber scored the goal off a pass from Carter in the middle of the arc.
- Fitchburg would answer back with their first of the half in the 57th minute on another rebounded shot. This time, it was Jessica Morse (Leominster, MA) who was in the right spot at the right time to put the Falcons back up by two at 4-2.

- Jenna Morse (Leominster, MA) gets the win (8-6-1) after making 4 saves on just 2 goals allowed.
- Brianna Gagnon is tagged with the loss (7-10) after making 7 saves and allowing the 3 goals.
