Falcons Finish Third At MASCAC Championships

 Camara qualifies for DIII New England's in the high jump and 60 meter hurdles to pace Falcons

Northampton, MA – The Fitchburg State University women's indoor track & field placed third at the 2024 MASCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships with a total of 87 points at the Tennis & Indoor Track Complex, hosted by Westfield State on the campus of Smith College.

How It Happened

Senior Makany Camara (Lowell, MA) led the way for the Green and Gold, finishing second overall in the high jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 1.66 meters, while placing second in the 60 meter hurdles with a DIII NE qualifying time of 9.03 seconds as well as posting a sixth place time of 28.50 seconds in the 200 meter, while sophomore Skye Goba (Norton, MA) finished second in the 5000 meter with a time of 19:12.47 and third in the 1000 meter (3:21.53).

Sophomore Shamya Boulware McKnight (Dracut, MA) placed fourth overall in the 400 meter with a time of 1:09.37, while newcomer Alexis Toste (Dracut, MA) posted a tenth place time of 2:08.14 in the 600 meter. Sophomore Julia Arena (Shrewsbury, MA) posted an eighth place time of 3:09.40 in the 800 meter, while newcomer Alexis Toste (Dracut, MA) finished sixth overall in the 60 meter hurdles with a time of 11.12 seconds.

The 4x200 meter relay team of sophomore Trishannah Scott (Leominster, MA), sophomore Alanis Velez (Lowell, MA), Boulware McKnight and sophomore Aria DiCato (Fitchburg, MA) turned in a fourth place time of 2:01.98, while the 4x400 meter relay team of DiCato, senior Erin Donelan (Fitchburg, MA), Velez and Boulware McKnight finished fourth with a time of 5:04.08.

In the field, junior Ephemian Bailey (Maple Grove, MN) (10.75m), freshman Taylor Crout (Boise, ID) (10.30m), senior Olivia Kephart (Rutland, MA) (8.63m) and sophomore Cassandra Israelson (Saugus, MA) (8.42m) placed second, third, tenth and 11th in the shot put, while in the weight throw, Bailey (2nd), Crout (3rd), Kephart (5th) and Israelson (6th) notched tosses of 12.68m, 11.66m, 10.41m and 10.19m respectively.

In the triple jump, Scott turned in a third place mark of 10.16 meters, while in the long jump, Boulware McKnight (4.33M) and Velez (3.90M) placed eighth and ninth. The 4x800 meter relay team of Goba, Arena, Israelson and Toste rounded out the top Falcon efforts on the day, placing third overall with a time of 12:39.26.
