Softball Concludes 2025 Season
Burns and Sousa drive in two for Green & Gold
Fitchburg, MA. – The Fitchburg State University Softball team dropped a pair of Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) contests to the Rams of Framingham State this afternoon from the Donna Lee Withington Memorial Softball Field as the Falcons fell 11-3 in the opener before dropping the nightcap 14-2.

How It Happened
Game One
Framingham State took a 9-0 edge in the top of the first as freshman Ava Sillings (Albany, NY) laced a two-run single up the middle and classmate Ellie Etemad-Gilbertson (Boston, MA) connected on a base-clearing triple.
Fitchburg State answered in the bottom of fourth when freshman Carolyn Brodeur (Ashby, MA) walked, move to second on a walk from classmate Priscilla Dillon (Glennville, GA) and scored on single off the bat of junior Shaelyn Burns (North Attleboro, MA) to make the score 9-1.
The Rams tacked on two runs in the top of fifth with freshman Ava Gray (Danvers, MA) driving senior Brooke Grassia (Danvers, MA) with sacrifice fly to center field, while senior Abby Behrikis (Mendon, MA) added a sacrifice fly to center that scored freshman Amanda Roche (Paxton, MA) for the 11-1 margin.
The Falcons responded in the bottom of fifth with freshman Izabella Raughley (Hartly, DE) singling through the left side, advancing to second and third on walks by junior Adria McKenzie (Lowell, MA>) and Brodeur before senior Isabella Sousa (Charlton, MA) registered a two-run single down the right field line, resulting in the 11-3 final.
By The Numbers
- Sousa led the way for the Falcons, going 1-for-3 with two RBI
- Burns hit 1-for-2 with an RBI for the Green and Gold
- Junior Madison Solt (Salem, NH) took the loss for Fitchburg State, giving up 11 runs on 11 hits and two K's in the complete game effort
- For the Rams, Etemad-Gilbertson finished 1-for-2 with a triple, one run scored and three RBI
- Freshman Audrey Gauthier (Dexter, MI) earned the victory for Framingham State, allowing three runs on three hits and ten strikeouts over five innings pitched
Game Two
Framingham State opened the scoring in the top of first as Grassi walked, moved to second and third on a single from Gilbertson and a groundout before sophomore Eliza Carignan (Epson, NH) connected on an RBI single to shortstop, plating Grassia for the 1-0 edge.
The Rams upped the advantage in the top of the second with graduate student Makayla Rooney (Peabody, MA) notching a two-run double to left field, while freshman Jocelyn Pepe (LaGrangeville, NY) and Carignan added RBI's to make the score 6-0.
The visitors extended the lead to 8-0 in the top of the third when Gilbertson laced a two-run single through the left side, scoring Sillings and sophomore Marina Cadena (Wareham, MA), Trailing 14-0 in the bottom of the fourth, Fitchburg State answered when Sousa reached on a fielders' choice, moved to second on a hit by pitch from Dillon before sophomore Jessica Mueller (Fitchburg, MA) registered an RBI double to left center, while Burns added a sacrifice fly to right field, resulting in the 14-2 final.
