HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Falcons celebrated 10 seniors tonight, who played in their final regular-season home game on Elliot Field. Abaigeal Doheny, Celia Dunmore, Leah Faria, Nicole Orlowski, Kendra Peretzman, Delaney Ponder, Alexis Raymond, Julia Theriault, Autumn Tibbetts, and Breanna White were all celebrated before the game.
- The first half was a back-and-forth, competitive game with neither team taking control. The scoring started two minutes in on a Kaylee Rich goal at the 13-minute mark for the Vikings. Theriault would answer back with her first career goal to tie the game up at one. Jessica St. George (Dracut, MA) gave the Falcons their first lead of the game just a few minutes later, with 9:57 left in the first quarter. Salem wouldn't stay behind for long as Jordan Turcotte would score the equalizer on a free-position shot. White would then give Fitchburg the lead back with 20 seconds left in the quarter on a man-up opportunity.
- The 3-2 score in the second didn't last long as the Vikings again would knot things up on another Turcotte goal. Then they would take the lead back 4-3 with 9:15 to go in the half on another Rich goal. This time, it was the Falcons having to tie it back up, which St. George would do with 4:42 remaining. They would go goal for goal to end the half, with Laura Young putting Salem back up, Tibbetts tying it back up, and then Turcotte giving the Vikings a 6-5 lead going into the break.
- Fitchburg would tie the game back up with a man-up goal by St. George. Salem would then go on a three-goal run with Rich, Young, and Megan Parthum, making it a 9-6 game. The Vikings would hold onto the lead for the remainder of the contest. Samantha Azzari (Haverhill, MA) would go on to score the final goal of the third quarter, bringing the game to 9-7.
- Salem would start the fourth by adding on two more goals, with Siobhan Smith and Turcotte. Tibbetts would respond with her second goal of the game, making it 11-8. Parthum would give the Vikings a little more cushion at 12-8. Azzari would net her second with the final goal of the game for either team.
