Men’s Soccer Holds Off Colby-Sawyer in Non-Conference Victory
FITCHBURG, MA: The Fitchburg State men's soccer team defeated the Chargers of Colby-Sawyer College this evening in non-conference action, 5-4.
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Falcons quickly took a 2-0 lead early in the first half. Sam Amara (Roslindale, MA) scored the opening goal for Fitchburg in the 2nd minute, assisted by Jair Santos (Somerville, MA). The Falcons added another in the 15th minute, with Brandon Gonzalez (Marlborough, MA) scoring an unassisted goal.
- Colby-Sawyer responded in the 17th minute of the game with a goal from Logan Vong. Fitchburg finished the first half strong with its third goal in the 40th minute. Joseph Lavela (Worcester, MA) scored his second goal of the season, giving the Falcons a 3-1 lead at halftime.
- The Chargers started the second half with a quick goal, just two minutes in. Colby Youngman brought the game to within one with his second goal of the season. Fitchburg responded two minutes later, extending its lead back to two. This time, Diego Cardoso Morais (Boston, MA) scored his first goal.
- Colby-Sawyer once again made it a one-goal game in the 59th minute, with the first of two Kaden Lewis goals. The 4-3 game didn't last long, as the Falcons pushed their lead back to two with Justin Job's (Worcester, MA) third goal of the season. Lewis scored his second goal of the game to cap the scoring and secure the 5-4 final.
- Malcolm Edwards (Salem, MA) earned the win (1-5-1) after making seven saves on 11 shots. Yener Bartolon took the loss (1-6-2) after a nine-save performance on 14 shots.
