MASCAC Football Pre-Season Poll Announced

Falcons collect eight points in 2022 MASCAC Pre-Season Poll

 

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Fitchburg State football team was recently picked ninth overall in the 2022 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) pre-season football poll as announced by the conference office this afternoon.

Framingham State was selected as favorite to capture the 2022 MASCAC football title in a vote of the league's coaches, capturing five of the nine first place votes to obtain 61 points. Following close behind Framingham State was UMass Dartmouth with 59 points, while Bridgewater State placed third overall with 50 points.

Western Connecticut followed in the fourth spot with 40 points, while Mass. Maritime finished in the fifth spot with 35 points. Plymouth landed in sixth with 34 points, while Worcester State was picked seventh with a total of 22 points. Westfield State and Fitchburg State rounded out the 2022 MASCAC football preseason poll in eighth and ninth with 15 points and eight points respectively.

The Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference, the nation's oldest Division III men's and women's playing conference, has a rich and storied tradition of competitive success, while celebrating excellence in the classroom. MASCAC member schools include Bridgewater State University, Fitchburg State University, Framingham State University, MCLA, Massachusetts Maritime Academy, Salem State University, Westfield State University and Worcester State University. Two other institutions, the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Plymouth State University are affiliate members of the conference in the sports of football and men's ice hockey, while Western Connecticut State University joined the conference as an affiliate member in football beginning in 2013.

The Fitchburg State football team will kick-off the 2022 season on Friday, September 2nd as they host the Bulldogs of Dean College for a non-conference tilt at Elliot Field with a 7:00 PM kickoff.
