How It Happened

Castleton opened the scoring at the 9:14 mark of the first quarter as junior quarterback Evan Smith (Butler, N.J./) found graduate student wideout Chance Fee (Spotswood, N.J.) for a six yard strike, capping an eight-play, 72 yard drive for a 7-0 edge.

The Spartans double its lead (14-0) early in the second quarter when senior Saijon McIntosh (Waterbury, Conn.) hauled in a 37 yard TD reception from Smith. Following a Simon Davis (Warwick, R.I.) two-yard touchdown run, the hosts capped the first half scoring with just over a minute remaining in the stanza with Smith finding McIntosh with a ten-yard pass to make the score 28-0. 

Following the intermission, Castleton pushed the lead to 35-0 as junior Caezer Williams (Round Rock, Tex.) returned a punt 62 yards for a touchdown. The Spartans secured the victory midway through the third quarter when Mcintosh pulled down his third TD of the contest from Smith, this time a 34-yard scoring reception, resulting in the 48-0 final.

Inside the Numbers

This afternoon's contest marks sixth matchup between the Falcons and the Spartans on the Gridiron with Fitchburg State 3-3 all-time when taking on Spartans.

Offensively for the Falcons, junior Logan Wilson (Woburn, Mass.) finished 14-for-23 with 103 yards passing, while freshman Sahir Gomez (Whittier, Calif.) caught four passe2 for 37 yards. Classmate Keyshawn McCurdy added three grabs for 23 yards for the Green and Gold.

For the Spartans, Smith completed 14-of-19 passes for 235 yards and four TD's, while McIntosh hauled in three passes for 81 yards and three touchdowns.

Defensively, freshman defensive back Nicholas Polanco (Miami, Fla.) totaled seven tackles on four solo stops and three assisted tackles, while junior Marcus Moss (Dighton, Mass.) chipped in with two solo stops and two assisted tackles for Fitchburg State.

For Castleton, sophomore Kevin McDonough (Concord, N.H.) led the way with nine tackles (three solo, six assisted), while graduate student Jacob Griggs (Williston, Vt.) added six total stops (two solo, four assisted).
