Falcons Drop MASCAC Clash to Worcester State

The Fitchburg State football team dropped a 56-10 decision to the Lancers of Worcester State University in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Elliot Field.

How It Happened

Worcester State took an early 14-0 lead after the first quarter. Quarterback Mike Loveless (Nashua, NH) connected with wide receiver Ke'Vaughn Davis (Utica, NY) for a 4-yard touchdown completing an 11-play, 44-yard drive. The Lancers doubled the lead with a 19-yard touchdown from Aaron-Moses Williams (Springfield, Mass.) to junior Drew von Klock (Walpole, Mass.).

In the second quarter, kicker Carson Russell (Woodinville, Wash.) connected on a 38-yard field goal for the Falcons to cut the deficit to 14-3. The Falcons' scoring drive was nine plays for 42 yards.  Worcester State extended its lead just before halftime. Williams added his second TD of the day with a 21-yard score to sophomore Dylan Hall (Plainville, Conn.).

It was all Worcester State in the third quarter. Williams tossed a pair of touchdowns to Davis sandwiched around a Loveless 4-run scamper to extend the lead to 35-3.

Trailing 42-3, the Falcons put together a 3-play scoring drive. Quarterback Logan Wilson (Woburn, Mass.) opened the drive with a 7-yard completion to Elijah Zaire McKnight (Tracy, Calif.) then senior Frank Simms IV (Revere, Mass.) rushed for 4 yards for a first down to the Falcons' 46-yard line. On the next play, Wilson found first-year Sahir Gomez (Whittier, Calif.) streaking down the right sideline for the 54-yard score.

The Lancers would add a pair of late touchdowns, a 1-yard run from Sy'air James (Stratford, Conn.), and a 6-yard run from Caeden Constant (Leominster, Mass.) for the 56-10 final.

Inside the Numbers

  • Logan Wilson finished 9-for-12 for 101 yards and a touchdown for the Falcons, while Williams completed 12-for-18 for 192 yards and 4 touchdowns for the Lancers.
  • Zaire-McKnight rushed for 50 yards on ten carries for the Green and Gold.
  • Davis finished with 3 touchdowns and running back Amir Mells (Boston, Mass.) had 108 yards rushing on 18 carries.
  • Sophomore Sebastian Burmester (Germantown, NY) led the Falcons on defense with 11 tackles 5 solo, 6 assists) while Zachary Whitcomb (West Lebanon, NH) and Emmanuel Cano (Lowell, Mass.) combine for a sack.
  • A trio of Lancers had 6 tackles, Sam Duah Jr. (3 solo, 3 assists), Jayden Da Cruz (5 solo, 1 assist) and Michael Cavallo (3 solo, 3 assists)
