Softball Falls Twice To Rams In Conference Twin Bill

Framingham, MA: The Fitchburg State Softball Team dropped a pair of Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) contests to the Rams of Framingham State this afternoon from the Maple Street Field. The Falcons fell 4-1 in the opener before being edged 2-1 in the nightcap.

Grass and Mueller notch two hits each for Green & Gold

Framingham, MA: The Fitchburg State Softball Team dropped a pair of Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) contests to the Rams of Framingham State this afternoon from the Maple Street Field. The Falcons fell 4-1 in the opener before being edged 2-1 in the nightcap.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One

-  Framingham State opened the scoring in the bottom of the first as junior Mikayla Rooney (Peabody, MA) walked and crossed the plate on an RBI double to center field off the bat of senior Kelsey McGuill (E. Longmeadow, MA) for the 1-0 edge.

- Fitchburg State threatened in the top of the fifth as senior Molly Grass (Rockland, MA) and classmate Dana Cisowski (Torrington, CT) reached on back-to-back singles, but Framingham State hurler Ally Moran (Wilmington, MA) was able work out of the jam unscathed.

- The Rams doubled the lead in the bottom of the fifth as senior Gwendolyn Carpenter (Ashley Falls, MA) tripled to center field and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Rooney for the 2-0 edge.

- Framingham State pushed the lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth with sophomore Shelby Duca (Ashaway, RI) registering an RBI double to right that scored newcomer Marina Cadena (West Wareham, MA), while freshmen Haley Jensen (Meriden, CT) added an RBI single to center field to bring in Duca,

- Fitchburg State answered back in the top of the seventh when junior Ella Marshall (Gloucester, MA) singled up the middle and scored on an RBI double to center field from Grass, resulting in the 4-1 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-  Grass led the way for the Falcons, going 3-for-4 with a double and one RBI

-  Cisoswski added two hits for the Green and Gold

-  Graduate student Sarah Cahill (Mansfield, MA) suffered the setback for Fitchburg State, allowing four runs on seven hits and six K's over six innings pitched

-  For the Rams, McGuill finished 2-for-2 with two doubles and an RBI

-  Carpenter chipped in with a triple and one run scored

-  Moran collected the win for Framingham State, giving up on run on eight hits and three strikeouts in the complete game effort

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two

-  Fitchburg State grabbed a 1-0 advantage in the top of the first when Grass reached on a fielding miscue, stole second, advanced to third on a groundout and scored on an RBI groundout by junior Julia Gauvin (Granby, MA).

-  Framingham State knotted the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the seventh as Cadena singled to center and crossed the plate on an RBI double to left field from freshman Elisa Carignan (Epsom, NH).

-  The Rams secured the victory in the bottom of the eighth with Carpenter, freshman Victoria Connelly (West Deptford, NJ) and Rooney singling to load the bases before McGuiill notched a sacrifice fly to score Connelly, resulting in the 2-1 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  This afternoon's contest marked the 289th meeting between the two teams on softball field with the Falcons 45-44 all-time when taking on the Rams

- , Freshman Jessica Mueller (Fitchburg, MA) led the way for the Green and Gold with two hits

-  Grass added on run scored and a stolen base

-  Sophomore Madison Solt (Salem, NH) suffered the setback for Fitchburg State, yielding two runs on five hits and our strikeouts over 7.1 innings of work

-  For the Rams, Carignan finished with one hit, including a double and one RBI

- Carena chipped in with one hit and one run scored

-  Senior Caroline Hughesn (Canton, MA) collected the win for Framingham State, allowing one rn on two hits and four K's in the complete game effort
