Fighting ScottsTake Down Baseball in Non-conference Action
DAVENPORT, FL: The Fitchburg State baseball team suffered a tough loss this afternoon to the Fighting Scotts of Gordon College in non-conference action in Florida by a score of 9-8.
THE BASICS:
- Date: 3/13/25
- Score: Gordon 9, Fitchburg 8
- Records: Gordon (4-5), Fitchburg (3-4)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- This was a very evenly matched game between the two squads. Gordon got the scoring started in the top of the second inning on a double by Robert Dunkle, who brought in one. The Falcons would respond with a run of their own, bringing the game to 1-1. Nolan Hills (Daners, MA) would come across and score on a ground out RBI by Maxwell Riordan (Pepperell, MA).
- Gordon would add three more in the third, pushing it to a 4-1 game, with Tyler Wilson bringing in two on a single up the middle. The Fighting Scotts would bring in the fourth run of the game on another single, this time to left field by Joey Kazlauskas. The Falcons would again match Gordon with three runs of their own to knot the game back up 4-4. Jacob Hurrell (Haverhill, MA) would bring in the first on a triple to right center. Joseph Abt (Newbury, MA) would follow him up with a double down the left field line, scoring Hurrell. Abt would then come around to score, with Hills finding another barrel and singling to right field.
- Gordon would plate another three in the fifth, starting with a run scoring on a balk, followed by a two-run single by Ben Marciano. The Falcons would get one back, as they were unable to match the Fighting Scotts in this inning, making it a 7-5 game. Hills again delivered with a runner in scoring position with another double, this time to left center field.
- Gordon would extend the lead to 9-5 in the top of the seventh, with Jonathan McIntyre bringing in one on a double to left center. CJ Demers would follow him up with a single to left field, bringing in McIntyre. Fitchburg would match the two runs scored by Gordon again in the bottom half of the inning. Hills got it going again, this time by way of a sacrifice fly. Cole DuHaime (Warminster, PA) would bring in the last run of the inning on a single to right center field.
- The ninth saw just one run in the bottom half, with Hurrell leading off and going deep to get the final of 9-8.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Jason Bickford (Exeter, NH) will get the loss (0-2) after going 4.2 innings, allowing five hits, six earned, and striking out three.
- Brett Moore got the win (1-1) after throwing five innings, giving up eight hits, five earned runs, and two strikeouts. Evan Louie earned himself his second save of the year after going 2.1 innings with one hit allowed, one earned run, and two strikeouts.
