Baseball Falls to Gwynedd Mercy
AUBURNDALE, FL: The Fitchburg State baseball team suffered a loss to the Griffins of Gwynedd Mercy in the first game of their spring trip.
THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
After the first two innings quickly passed for both teams, the Griffins got the scoring started. An error and a couple of walks gave Sam Junker the opportunity to bring in the game's first run on a single through the left side. They would add another two in the fourth on an RBI single by Gabe Tomei, who brought in one on the hit and a second on a fielding error.
After five innings, the Falcons were down 4-0. In the sixth inning, the Fitchburg offense brought the game back within one, starting with a single to right field by Joseph Abt (Newbury, MA) that scored Jacob Hurrell (Haverhill, MA) from third following his triple. Michael Nazzaro (Stoughton, MA) kept it going. With two in scoring position, he came up and delivered a double to right center.
- Tomei would help the Griffins add on another two with a two-run shot to right field in the seventh. With another two coming in the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Jimmy DeCarlo and an RBI single to center field by Cooper Root.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Brayden Scott earned the win (2-0) for Gwynedd Mercy with a 6.1 innings pitched, eight hits allowed, three earned, and three strikeouts.
- Jason Bickford (Exeter, NH) suffered the loss (0-1) after going three innings with three hits allowed, one earned run, three walks, and two strikeouts.
