Baseball Bested in Florida by Mt. St. Joseph
AUBURNDALE, FL: The Fitchburg State baseball team suffered its second loss in Florida to nonconference opponent Mt. St. Joseph (MSJ) by a score of 10-4.
THE BASICS:
- Date: 3/8/24
- Score: MSJ 10, Fitchburg 4
- Records: MSJ (9-2), Fitchburg (1-2)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Lions jumped out quickly, 8-0 through two innings on the Falcons. The big six run inning by MSJ was highlighted by a Jordan Harley two RBI single to left field. The Lions would add on one more in the third on a Jackson Gutzwille single to left, making it a 9-0 game.
- The Falcons would get two runs back in the top half of the fourth inning on a long double in the left centerfield gap by Nolan Hills (Danvers, MA). MSJ would follow that up with their tenth and final run of the game in the bottom half of the fourth. The tenth run came across on a sacrifice fly by Austin Buckle.
- Fitchburg would get the last two runs of the game in the top of the fifth. Hills again would deliver another two RBIs on a single to right field, putting him at four for the game and being responsible for all of the Falcons runs.
- The Remainder of the contest would go by quickly with little action from either side. The Falcons were also highlighted by Joseph Abt (Newbury, MA) and Jacob Hurrell (Haverhill, MA), who both had three hits and scored three of the team's four runs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Joseph Hartnett (N. Attleboro, MA) suffered the loss (0-1) after one inning of work, allowing eight runs on eight hits, three walks, and two strikeouts.
- Matt Frye, got the win for the Lions after completing five innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and five strikeouts.
