Bears Sweep Baseball
BRIDGEWATER, MA: The Fitchburg State baseball team dropped a pair of games this afternoon to the Bears of Bridgewater State in conference action, with game one finishing with a score of 10-4 and game two seeing an 8-3 final.
THE BASICS:
- Date: 4/14/25
- Score: Bridgewater 10, Fitchburg 4 GM1. Bridgewater 8, Fitchburg 3 GM2
- Records: Bridgewater (16-7, 7-1 MASCAC), Fitchburg (8-12, 2-6 MASCAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One
- Game one started with the Falcons taking a 3-0 lead. Nolan Hills (Danvers, MA) continued hitting with runners in scoring position today. He would bring in two on a double to left center field.
- The Bears would get back into the game by tying it up at three in the bottom of the third inning. Kevin Lindsey and Joshua Selander both would bring in runs on singles. Selander would plate two with his hit through the left side. Bridgewater would gain the lead in the bottom of the fourth on a solo home run by Philip Messina.
- Fitchburg would tie it back up at four, with their last run, that came on a fielder's choice by Joseph Abt (Newbury, MA).
- Bridgewater would go back up in the bottom half of the fifth and never look back. Ryan Flaherty would hit a two-run shot, making it a 6-4 game. The game would come to a close after Bridgewater added four more runs in the bottom half of the sixth, getting the final 10-4.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Trey Yesu got the win (4-2) for the Bears, after going 4.1 innings, allowing 6 hits, 4 runs, and 3 walks.
- Joseph Hartnett (N. Attleboro, MA) suffered his fifth loss of the season, putting him at 0-5 on the campaign. He went 5 innings, allowing 7 hits and 6 runs, and striking out 8.
- Hits: Bridgewater 11, Fitchburg 7
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two
- The majority of the scoring in this one came in the first two innings of the game. Bridgewater would jump out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on two sacrifice flies. Fitchburg would get one back in the top of the second on their own sacrifice fly by Maxwell Kelly (E. Bridgewater, MA).
- The Bears would blow the game open in the bottom of the second with a walk that brough in their third run, an RBI single by Selander, and a grand slam by Flaherty.
- Hills would get two more RBIs in the top of the fifth inning, getting the final score of 8-3 on a two-run shot to left field.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Shane Handrahan got the win (2-1) for Bridgewater after going 6 innings, allowing 6 hits, 3 runs, and striking out seven.
- Owen Corcoran (Stafford, VA) suffered the loss (2-1) after going 1.2 innings, allowing 3 hits, 6 runs, and 3 walks.
- Hits: Fitchburg 7, Bridgewater 6
