Baseball Defeated By Bears In Conference Action
Hurrell paces Green and Gold with team leading fifth homerun on the season
Bridgewater, MA: The Fitchburg State baseball team dropped a 10-2 decision to the Bears of Bridgewater State this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Bridgewater State opened the scoring in the bottom of the second as senior Cam James (Ipswich, MA) singled through the left side to score senior Jay Wladkowski (Norwood, MA) and graduate student Steven Simon (Hanover, MA) before James crossed the plate on a wild pitch for the 3-0 advantage.
- Fitchburg State cut the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the eighth when junior Jake Santulli (Wolcott, CT) drew a leadoff walk and classmate Jacob Hurrell (Haverhill, MA) blasted a two-run homerun to left center field for his team leading fifth home run. The Bears secured the victory in the bottom half of the eighth with junior Scott Emerson (Peabody, MA) collecting a two-run single through the left side, while sophomore Ryan Flaherty (Duxbury, MA) followed with a bases clearing double to right center, resulting in the 10-2 final.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- This afternoon's contest marked the 101st between Fitchburg State and Bridgewater State on the baseball diamond with the Falcons 31-70 all-time when taking on the Bears
- Hurrell led the way for the Falcons, going 1-for-3 with a home run, one run scored and two RBI
- Santulli went 1-for-2 with a double, one walk and a run scored for the Green and Gold
- Senior Joseph Hartnett (North Andover, MA) suffered the setback for Fitchburg State, allowing three runs on seven hits with seven K's and two walks over seven innings pitched
- For the Bears Flaherty finished 2-for-4 with a double, one run scored and three RBI
- James chipped in with one hit, one run scored and two RBI
- Graduate student Matthew Seavey (North Attleboro, MA) earned the victory for Bridgewater State, giving up just two hits with six strikeouts and two walks in seven innings of work
