Fitchburg, MA – The Fitchburg State men's basketball team dropped a 90-73 decision to the Lasers of Lasell University this afternoon in non-conference action from the Parkinson Gymnasium.

How It Happened

First Half

Lasell grabbed an early 6-2 advantage on buckets from sophomore Anda\y Madesko (Atlanta, GA) and senior Marcus Lewis (Fort Lauderdale, FL) before took a 7-6 edge as sophomore Jalen Jackson (San Antonio, TX) connected on a three ball and senior Nathaniel Semedo (Bridgewater, MA) added a jumper.

The Lasers regained the advantage (16-7) as sophomore Cameron Foster-Martez (Atlanta, GA) notched a basket, but the Falcons countered when Jackson drained a three-pointer and a jumper from sophomore Matthew Drayton (Boston, MA) to make the score 16-12.

The visitor went on an 8-2 run to push the margin to 35-20, capped by a pair of free throws from senior Karim Belhouchet (Newton, MA). The Green and Gold cut the deficit to 40-26 with Jackson and sophomore Braeden White (Spencer, MA) hitting buckets before Lasell took a 51-29 margin into the break on a Madesko free-throw.

Second Half

Following the intermission, Lasell upped the lead to 62-40 on a three-ball by sophomore Che Hanks (Chelsea, MA) but Fitchburg State responded with baskets from freshman Trevor Oliver (Douglas, MA) and junior Nicolas Von Zboray (Pollock Pines, CA) to trim the lead to 68-47.

The Falcons reduced the deficit to 71-60 with sophomore Jackson Owens (Buford, GA) and classmate Alex Moemeka (West Hartford, CT) netting layups before newcomer Esmer Madesko (Atlanta, GA) notched a layup for 73-60 edge for the Lasers.

The Green and Gold answered back as Semedo notched a layup to make the score 77-67, but Lasell secured the victory on a Lewis layup, resulting in the 90-73 final.

Inside the Numbers

  • Jackson led the way for the Falcons with a team-best 17 points, five boards and one block
  • Semedo chipped in with 12 points, one rebounds, one assist and two steals
  • For the Lasers, Lewis finished with 23 points, four caroms and four assists
  • E. Madesko added 22 points, seven rebounds, three assists and three steals
  • Eighth meeting between Fitchburg State and Lasell on the basketball court with the Falcons 4-4 all-time when taking on the Lasers
  • Fitchburg State shot 30-for-62 (48.4%) from the field and (7-of-21) 33.3% from three point range
