Football Concludes Season with Loss to Westfield
WESTFIELD, MA: Fitchburg State football closed out the 2024 season this afternoon with a loss to the Owls of Westfield State in MASCAC action.
THE BASICS:
- Date: 11/16/24
- Score: Westfield 22, Fitchburg 7
- Records: Westfield (4-6, 4-5 MASCAC), Fitchburg (2-8, 1-8 MASCAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Westfield would score the first 22 points of the contest, scoring one touchdown in three of the four quarters. The game's first points came with 2:03 left in the first on a seven-yard rush by Dylan Disabella. The Owls added on with 1:54 left in the second on another Disabella score. This time it came from 21 yards out. After a two-point conversion that failed, the hosting team led the Falcons 12-0.
- The second half would see the third Westfield touchdown with 8:23 left. Disabella would make it a three touchdown game for himself with another seven-yard plunge into the endzone. After a successful PAT, the score was bumped to 19-0. Westfield would put up their last points of the game in the fourth quarter with 8:47 left. Cooper Harvey would line up for a 28-yard field goal attempt, and he would kick it through the uprights, making the game 22-0.
- The Falcons would close out the game and the season with a big play touchdown with 31 seconds remaining. Devin Lebron (Peabody, MA) would find Jeremy Allik (Natick, MA) open for a 50-yard touchdown pass and catch. Jonah Kosta (E. Providence, RI) would add on the PAT, closing out the four-play 74-yard drive.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Defensively, Sebastian Burmester (Germantown, NY) topped all with 13 total tackles (4 solo, 9 assists), 1 sack, and 3 tackles for loss.
- For the Owls defense, Cade Nelson finished with a team-high 7 tackles (3 solos, 4 assists) and 1.5 tackles for loss.
- Eric Lovell had a big impact on Fitchburg's offense as he picked the ball off twice with 24 return yards.
- Total Yards: Westfield 342 (passing: 110, rushing: 232), Fitchburg 216 (passing: 144, rushing 72)
