Football Stunned by Framingham
FRAMINGHAM, MA: Fitchburg State football fell to the Rams of Framingham State late in the fourth quarter. The MASCAC matchup finished this afternoon with a final score of 25-22.
THE BASICS:
- Date: 10/5/24
- Score: Framingham 25, Fitchburg 22
- Records: Framingham (1-4, 1-3 MASCAC), Fitchburg (1-4, 0-4 MASCAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Framingham started their first drive of the second quarter by surrendering a safety, giving the Falcons a 2-0 lead. Fitchburg would score on the next possession to go up 10-0. Sahir Gomez (Whittier, CA) caught his third touchdown of the season from 20 yards out.
- The Rams would close out the half with a touchdown of their own. Tanner Leo would find wide receiver Elijah Nichols open for a big 51-yard TD.
- The second half would start with the Rams gaining their first lead of the contest. Nichols would get his second score of the game, this time from 15 yards out and from a different passer in Luke Thompson. The Falcons would respond after falling behind 10-14. Matthew Aguirre (Laredo, TX) would bring the ball into the endzone on a 10-yard rush, giving them back the lead. That ten-yard rush was just one carry of his 28 for 127 yards. After a missed extra point, the score was set at 16-14.
- The fourth quarter saw Framingham regain the lead on a made 27-yard field goal by Matthew Farley. The Falcons again would allow the Rams to keep the one-point lead (16-17). Rocky Marchitelli (Gunnison, CO) would again find Gomez open while in the red zone, this time from eight yards out. Fitchburg was unable to complete a two-point conversion, settling the score at 22-17.
- The Games would come to a close with the Rams completing another big passing play from Thompson to Alex Maia for a 65-yard touchdown.
- Defensively for the Falcons, Cameron Monette (Winchendon, MA) had six tackles and 1.5 for a loss. Jordan Cummings (Swampscott, MA) got himself another interception along with four tackles.
- For the Rams, Kymauny Roland topped the team with six tackles, one sack, and two tackles for a loss. Mitchell Purter forced the only turnover for the Rams with an interception.
