Hockey Cruises Past Raiders
NASHUA, NH: Fitchburg State ice hockey took down the Raiders of Rivier University handily this evening in conference action 8-2.
THE BASICS:
- Date: 1/23/25
- Score: Fitchburg 8, Rivier 2
- Records: Fitchburg (9-7, 5-4 MASCAC), Rivier (5-10-1, 1-7-1 MASCAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Falcons scored early and often against the Raiders defense. Jack Johansen (Milford, NH) got things going just seven minutes into the first period. Rivier would respond with their first goal of the game just over a minute later, knotting it up at 1-1. Brett Turner was the beneficiary of the Falcons laps. Matteo Orme Lynch (Courbevoie, France) would close out the period with two of his three goals. The first coming in the 15th minute and the second in the 18th minute.
- Orme Lynch would get things started four minutes into the second period with his third and final goal, giving him the hat trick. Fitchburg would go on to score three more in the period, putting the score at 7-1. Jeremy Maillet (Leominster, MA) would score the Falcons fifth goal in the 6th minute while being shorthanded. Johansen added another tally to his season total making it six on the year and his second of the game on a power play opportunity. The final goal of the period came off the stick of Nicklas Millhorn (Brownstown, MI) in the 16th minute.
- The final period saw Rivier get one back after Cody Rumsey found the back of the net while being shorthanded. The Falcons would finish the game off in the 8th minute with their eighth goal of the game. This time coming from Nicholas Weber (Peoria, AZ) for his first of the game.
- Lending a helping hand on the night for the Falcons was Elowan Orme Lynch (Courbevoie, France) with three assists, Jackson Collins (Wake Forest, NC) and Samuel Rennick (Salisbury, MA) with two assists, and Christian Halbig (Queenstown, MD), Johansen, Maillet, Toivo Kramer (New York, NY), Kristopher Zapata (Chery Hill, NJ), and Hunter Dunn (Douglas, MA) with one assist.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Frederick Soderberg (Harrison Township, MI) got the win (7-6) in net for the Falcons after stopping 32 of 34 shots faced.
- LJ Newell took the loss (5-8-1) in net for the Raiders after saving 20 of 27 shots faced.
- Shots: Fitchburg 40, Rivier 34
- Penalties: Fitchburg 10 minutes on 5 infractions. Rivier had 22 minutes on 7 infractions.
