Ice Hockey Falls to UMass Dartmouth in OT

NEW BEDFORD, MA: Fitchburg State ice hockey suffered its first loss of the season, falling to UMass Dartmouth this evening in conference action. 

THE BASICS:

Date: 11/21/24

Score: UMD 5, Fitchburg 4

Records: UMD (3-1, 1-0 MASCAC), Fitchburg (4-1, 1-1 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Falcons got on the board first, just six minutes into the contest. Nicklas Millhorn (Brownstown, MI) would be the one to put the Falcons up 1-0. The Corsairs would knot the game back up at 1-1 after Collin Patterson beat the Fitchburg tender. 

- The second period would see the Falcons jump out in front by two after a power-play goal off a wrist shot just inside the blue line by Trenton Skaggs (Oconomowoc, WI). The other came on an unassisted goal by Samuel Rennick (Salisbury, MA). UMD would end the second with a power-play goal of their own 18:38 in. Tyler Stewart found the back of the net with help from Brennen Pecararo and Cade Hanley to make it a 3-2 game in favor of the visiting Falcons. 

- The third period would be the opposite of the previous, with the Corsairs outscoring Fitchburg 2-1. UMD tied the game at 3-3 on a Patterson power-play goal, marking his second of the game. The go ahead score gave Patterson the hat trick, giving his team the 4-3 advantage. Fitchburg would knot it up with just 49 seconds left on their second power-play goal of the night. This time, it was Alexandre Bauvais (Meudon, France) who beat the Corsair tender, forcing the game into overtime. 

- The overtime period lasted 2:16 before UMD would end it on a Pecararo goal. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Graham Burke got the win (1-1) for the Corsairs in net, after seeing 42 shots and making 38 saves. 

Frederick Soderberg (Harrison Township, MI) suffered the loss (3-1) after seeing 24 shots and making 19 saves. 

- Shots: Fitchburg 42, UMD 24

- Penalty Totals: Fitchburg 16 minutes on 8 infractions, UMD 22 minutes on 7 infractions
