Shimiyimana sets school record in the triple jump with mark of 14.09 meters

Brunswick, Maine – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team returned to action this afternoon, competing in the 2023 Lynn Ruddy Invitational, host by Bowdoin College at the William Farley Field House as the Falcons notched 16 PR's during the meet.

How It Happened

Senior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, Mass.) led the way for the Falcons, taking top honors in the triple jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 14.09 meters to set a new school record, while adding second place effort in long jump with a mark of 6.53 meters, while junior Shaki Auston (Springfield, Mass.) finished third in the 60 meter hurdles with a DIII NE qualifying time of 8.65 seconds and fourth in long jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 6.05 meters.

Junior Taban Manyok (Lynn, Mass.) was also solid for the Green and Gold, taking top honors in the 3000 meter with a DIII New England qualifying time of 8:45.89, while  in the 200 meter, junior Elijah Zaire-McKnight (Tracy, Calif) (9th), freshman Nicholas Polanco (Miami, Fla.) (11th) and newcomer Paul Michaelidis (Acton, Mass.) (12th) turned in times of 24.60, 25.05 and 25.27 seconds.

McKnigth added a sixth place time of 7.51 seconds in the 60 meter dash, while Michealidis placed eighth in the 400 meter with a solid time of 54.95 seconds. In the 600 meter, sophomore Cristian Bueno Campos (Lawrence, Mass.) (4th), newcomer Omar Elmi (Worcester, Mass.) (5th) and classmate Brady Madigan (Ayer, Mass.) (6th) posted times of 1:28.21, 1:36.06 and 1:36.94.

In the 800 meter, sophomore Aidan Cattelan (West Hartford, Conn.) (2:07.60), senior Tyssen Labombard (Shelbourne Mass.) and junior Andrew Bedard (Rutland, Mass.) (2:11.76) finished sixth, seventh and eighth, while in the mile, newcomer Michael Burns (Worcester, Mass) (5:05.25) and junior Elijah Stathus (Northampton, Mass.) (5:49.51) finished seventh and eighth.

In the field, freshman Liam Bourassa (Shirley, Mass.) (1,75M) and senior Benjamin Sacramone (Hubbardston, Mass.) (1,70M) placed 4th and 6th in the high jump, while Zaire-McKnight (5.61M) finished 11th in the long jump

In the shot put, Bourassa (13.01M) and sophomore Cameron Monette (Winchendon, Mass.) (11.02M) placed fifth and 12th respectively, while Monette (4th) and Bourassa (6th) added tosses of 14.11 meters and 12.58 meters in the weight throw.

Burns added an eighth place time of 17:05.83 in the 5000 meter, while Sacramone posted an eighth place time of 9.55 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles to round out the top Falcon efforts on the afternoon.
