Falcons Shine At Branwen Smith-King Invitational
Kwamo, Bourassa and Monette notch DIII qualifying marks
Medford, MA. – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team finished fifth overall with a total of 49 points at the 2024 Branwen Smith-King Invitational, hosted by Tufts University at the Gantcher Sports & Convocation Center this afternoon.

How It Happened
Freshman Tyler Kwamo (Auburn, MA) led the way for the Green and Gold, placing first overall in the triple jump with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 13.29 meters and tenth in the high jump (1.80m), while sophomore Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) finished first overall in the weight throw and third in the shotput with a DIII NE qualifying tosses of 15.96 meters 13.50 meters. Junior Cameron Monette (Winchendon, MA) was also solid for the Falcons finishing third in the weight throw with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 14.97 meters to go along with an 11th place effort in the shotput (11.45m).
Senior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, MA) finished second ninth in the long jump (5.95m), second in the triple jump (12.82m) and 26th in the 60 meter (7.81), while newcomer Matt Telson (Everett, MA) placed fifth in the 800 meter with a time of 2:08.34. In the 60 meter, freshman Keenan Ansah (Plymouth, MA) (10th), classmate Jaiden Madden (Lynn, MA) (24th) and Bourassa (25th) turned in times of 7.34, 7.78 and 7.79 seconds respectively, while newcomer Matthew Gill (Ayer, MA) turned in a 17th place time of 11.92 seconds in the 60 meter hurdles.
In the mile, senior Cameron Davis (Gardner, MA) (5:24.33), junior Joshua Leaffer (North Andover, MA) (5:34.86) and senior Tyssen LaBombard (Shelburne Falls, MA) (5:43.49) finished 27th, 29th and 30th, while junior Matthew Radder (West Seneca, NY) posted a 14th place time of 1:00.35 in the 400 meter.
Junior Cristian Bueno Campos (Lawrence, MA) notched a time of 1:31.26 with an 11th finish in the 600 meter, while in the 5000 meter, sophomore Michael Burns (Worcester, MA) (4th), Davis (12th), junior Casey LaCombe (South Hadley, MA) (14th) and senior Ethan Stathis (Northampton, MA) (15th) registered times of 16;23.82, 17:58.60, 18:55.72 and 19:09.40.
In the field, Ansah (5.85m) and freshman Cameron Farley (Westminster, MA) (5.09m) placed 11th and 20th in the long jump, while newcomer Maximus Lajoie (Worcester, MA) finished 11th in the triple jump with a mark of 9.96 meters. Freshman John Koutsouoa (Birdsboro, PA) finished 27th in the weight throw (4.20m) and tenth in the shotput (11.63m). Madden (26.34), Farley (26.51) and Lajoie (26.80) finished 34th, 36th and 38th in the 200 meter to round out the top Falcon efforts on the afternoon.
