Falcons Finish Third At MASCAC Championships

Northampton, MA – The Fitchburg State University men’s indoor track & field team finished third at the 2024 MASCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships with a total of 99 points today at the Tennis & Indoor Track Complex, hosted by Westfield State on the campus of Smith College.

Felix, Kwamo, Monette & Bourassa qualify for DIII NE's

Northampton, MA – The Fitchburg State University men's indoor track & field team finished third at the 2024 MASCAC Indoor Track & Field Championships with a total of 99 points today at the Tennis & Indoor Track Complex, hosted by Westfield State on the campus of Smith College.

How It Happened

Sophomore Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) led the for the Green and Gold, placing second overall in the shot put with a DIII New England qualifying throw of 14.42 meters and fifth in the weight throw with a DIII NE qualifying toss of 14.72 meters, while junior Cameron Monette (Winchendon, MA) finished second in the weight throw with a DIII New England qualifying mark of 15.78 meters and eighth in the shot put with a toss of 12.32 meters.

Senior Eric Shimiyimana (Worcester, MA) took top honors in the triple jump with a DIII NE qualifying mark of 13.21 meters and third in the long jump with a jump of 6.04 meters, while freshman Tyler Kwamo (Auburn, MA) added a DIII New England qualifying mark of 1.95 meters in the high jump with a second place effort as well as placing 16th in the long jump (5.46m) and second in the triple jump (12.52m).

Senior Nathaniel Felix (Worcester, MA) was also solid of the Falcons, finished second in the 60 meter with a DIII New England qualifying time of 7.06 seconds, while freshman Keenan Ansah (Plymouth, MA) finished 13th in the 60 meter (7.42), third in the long jump (6/41m) and 11th in the 200 meter (24.51).

In the 5000 meter, sophomore Michael Burns (Worcester, MA) (2nd) and graduate student Cameron Davis (Gardner, MA) (7th) posted times of 16:10.23 and 17:12.19, while junior Cristian Bueno Campos (Lawrence, MA) (1:30.11) and freshman Jesse Moriello (Saugus, MA) (1:33.54) finished fourth and ninth.

Newcomer Matt Telson (Everett, MA) (5th) and sophomore Brady Madigan (Ayer, MA) (6th) posted times of 2:09.15 and 2:12.94 in the 800 meter, while in the 1000 meter, senior Tyssen LaBombard (Shelburne, MA) (2:54.66) and Bueno Campos (3:13.96) finished fourth and eighth.

In the 3000 meter, Burns (9:34.65) and Davis (9:57.92) placed second and seventh, while the 4x200 meter relay team of freshman Cameron Farley (Westminster, MA), Moriello, newcomer Maximus Lajoie (Worcester, MA) and sophomore Brady Madigan (Ayer, MA) notched a fourth place time of 1:47.48.

The 4x800 meter relay team of Bueno Campos, Burns, Davis and LaBombard finished third with a time of 9:40.45, while the 4x400 meter relay team of Felix, Ansah, Bueno Campos and Moriello posted a third place time of 3:47.94. Newcomer John Koutsouoa (Birdsboro, PA) rounded out the top Falcon effort on the day, finishing 15th in the shot put with a toss of 11.15 meters.
