Men’s Outdoor Track Sweeps MASCAC Weekly Awards
Bourassa named Field Athlete of the Week; Edwards tabbed Track/Rookie of the Week
Fitchburg, Mass. – Fitchburg State junior Liam Bourassa (Shirley, MA) was recently tabbed Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Outdoor Track Field Athlete of the Week, while freshman Samuel Edwards (Townsend, MA) took home MASCAC Men's Outdoor Track Athlete and Rookie of the Week honors as announced by the conference office on Tuesday.
Bourassa collected his first weekly accolade of the season after taking top honors in the javelin with an All-New England qualifying toss of 62.99 meters, while adding first places efforts in the shot put and hammer throw (PR) with DIII New England qualifying throws of 13.82 meters and 52.46 meters as well as placing second in the discus with a DIII New England qualifying toss of 44.48 meters for the Falcons at the 2025 Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational on Saturday. With his throw over the weekend, Liam currently ranks ninth in the javelin.
Edwards registered his first two weekly honors on the year after taking top honors in 3000 meter steeplechase with a DIII New England qualifying time of 10:03.17 (PR), while adding a second place time of 2:05.25 (PR) in the 800 meter for the Falcons at the 2025 Jim Sheehan Memorial Invitational on Saturday. Samuel is currently ranked 10th regionally in the steeplechase.
The Fitchburg State Men's Outdoor Track & Field team returns to action on Friday and Saturday as they compete at the 2025 Silfen Invitational, hosted by Connecticut College.
