Falcons Fall to Trailblazers

Fitchburg, Mass. – The Fitchburg State men's soccer team fell to the Trailblazers of MCLA 3-0 in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action on Saturday afternoon at Elliot Field.

How It Happened

After a scoreless first frame, the Trailblazers capitalized on a direct kick just outside the 20-yard marker, freshman Jacob Malburg (Amesbury, Mass.) collected a loose ball in the box and made it a 1-0 game at the 47:21 mark.  MCLA doubled the lead (2-0) three minutes later when Malburg deposited his second of the night and fourth goal of the season into the back of the net.

Senior Wesley Call (Ashby, Mass.) added an insurance goal for MCLA late in the second half resulting in the 3-0 final.

 By the Numbers

  • Junior Francesco Campione (Newton, Mass.)  and sophomore Gabriel Teixeira (Lunenburg, Mass.) had three shots each for the Falcons.
  • Collin Robson made four saves in 75 minutes of play for the Green and Gold
  • Sam Edge (Plattsburg, NY) made six saves in the win, earning the shutout
  • MCLA had the edge in shots (12-11), while the Falcons led in corner kicks (4-3)
