Softball Swept On Day Four Of Space Coast Tournament

Melbourne, FL. – The Fitchburg State University softball team dropped a pair of non-conference contests on day four action of the 2025 Space Coast Spring Games as the Falcons dropped a 5-4 decision to the Yellow Jackets of Defiance College in the opener before falling 10-0 to the Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech in the nightcap.

How It Happened
Game One
Defiance grabbed a 2-0 lead in the bottom of fourth as sophomore Madison Guggenbiller (Fort Recovery, OH) singled to right field to plate junior Morgan Scott (Elwood, IN) before junior Kayless Heath (Elk Grove, CA) drove in Scott with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Fitchburg State answered back in the top of fifth when junior Adria McKenzie (Lowell, MA) walked, advanced to third on a groundout and crossed the plate on a single up the middle off the bat of sophomore Jessica Mueller (Fitchburg, MA) to make the score 2-1
The Yellow Jackets upped the margin to 5-1 in the bottom of the fifth with freshman Emma Linn (Minster, OH) registering a sacrifice tly to center field that score sophomore Haley Hughes (Maumee, OH), while Scott and Guggenbiller added RBI base knocks.
The Falcons responded in the top of the sixth with freshman Carolyn Brodeur (Ashby, MA) driving in classmate Emily Bennett (Gorham, ME) with a single up the middle before newcomer Lauren Ahearn (Danvers, MA) and Brodeur crossed the plate on wild pitches, resulting in the 5-4 final.

- Third meeting between Fitchburg State and Defaince on the softball field with the Falcons 1-2 all-time when taking on the Yellow Jackets

Lawrence Tech grabbed a 5-0 advantage in the top of fifth as sophomore Sarah Basket (Essexville, MI) and freshman Brianna Hays (Wauseon, OH) registered RBI base hits before sophomore Ashlyn Bloomfield= (Mattawan, MI) added a two-rum double.
The Blue Devils secured the victory in the top of sixth when senior Larisaa Mercado (Wilmington, CA) laced a two-ru double to center field, while senior Morgan James (Port Huron, MI) followed with a two-fun single to right field, resulting in the 19-0 final
