Women’s Basketball Defeats Leopards in Season Opener
FITCHBURG, MA: The Fitchburg State women's basketball team took down the Leopards of Wentworth this afternoon in non-conference action, 54-38. This win marks the first career win for first-year Head Coach Jonathan Mandeldove.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Leopards struggled to keep the ball safe throughout the game as they racked up 29 turnovers as a team. The Falcons' defense was all over the place and ran their trap defense perfectly throughout the contest. Neither team shot the ball particularly well, as they both were in the 26% range from the field.
- Wentworth was led in scoring by Mia Luna Zayas, who scored 13 points. Their top rebounder was Taylor Garabedian, who pulled down a game-high 14 boards. She also topped the team in assists with three.
- The Falcons were paced by Freshman Shanell Smith-Akpan (W. Warwick, RI). She went off for 21 points, including another team-high 13 rebounds, completing the double-double. Monet Augmon (New London, CT) topped the game with her five assists and six steals.
