Field Hockey Secures Home Opener Victory Over Nichols

FITCHBURG, MA: The Fitchburg State field hockey team defeated Nichols College in its home opener of the 2025 season with a 1-0 victory in non-conference play.

FITCHBURG, MA: The Fitchburg State field hockey team defeated Nichols College in its home opener of the 2025 season with a 1-0 victory in non-conference play.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 9/3/25

- Score: Fitchburg 1, Nichols 0

- Records: Fitchburg (2-0), Nichols (0-2)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- This was a very evenly matched contest, with the two teams battling it out between the 20-yard lines of Elliot Field. The first half stayed scoreless, with the Falcons outshooting the Bison six to three.

- Fitchburg finally scored in the third quarter at the 34-minute mark. Kendall O'Brien (Townsend, MA) netted her first collegiate goal. She was assisted by Samantha Yates (Woodstock, VT). Yates found O'Brien just outside the left side of the cage after the Falcons earned a penalty corner. Fitchburg's defense managed to hold off the Bison for the rest of the game.

- Isabella Corcoran (Braintree, MA) got her second win of the season, putting her at 2-0 on the year. She played a key role in the 1-0 game after making some incredible saves down the stretch. Overall, Corcoran made five saves.

- Jesse Altemose suffered the loss as she falls to 0-2 on the young season. She, too, made some great saves, keeping the game a low-scoring affair. Altemose saw five shots on goal and made four saves.
