Softball Splits with Bay Path
LONGMEADOW, MA: The Fitchburg State softball team split their non-conference doubleheader on Sunday with the Wildcats of Bay Path University. The Falcons started the day with a win in game one by a score of 8-5, but fell in game two 8-0.

- Date: 3/23/25
- Score: Fitchburg 8, Bay Path 5 (G1). Bay Path 8, Fitchburg 0 (G2)
- Records: Fitchburg (2-13), Bay Path (6-11)
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One
- The Falcons jumped out to a 6-0 lead through the first four innings of the contest. Ariana Baez (Methuen, MA) started things off in the top of the second with an RBI single. Emily Bennett (Gorham, ME) would conclude the second inning with one more run off of a fielder's choice.
- Fitchburg would have their biggest inning in the top of the fourth when they would bring in four more runs, making it 6-0. The top of the fourth was highlighted by Priscilla Dillon (Glennville, GA) hitting an RBI double to get the inning started. The Falcons then manufactured the three other runs on an error by the Wildcats, a sacrifice fly, and a groundout that would bring in the last run of the inning. Baez would add on one more in the top of the fifth, making it a 7-0 game with another RBI single.
- The Wildcats would respond and get onto the scoreboard in the bottom half of the fifth. They would bring home two in the inning on a Madisyn Vera single that brought in both, but she would get thrown out at second try to stretch it into a double. Bay Path got one more back in the bottom of the sixth on a Jenna Boudreau RBI single.
- The Falcons would add on one more in the top of the seventh inning, getting them to an 8-3 lead. This time, it was Lauren Ahearn (Danvers, MA) who would find some grass in the outfield for an RBI single.
- Game one would come to a close after the Wildcats put up two runs in the bottom of the seventh. The first run came on a wild pitch, with the last on a groundout RB for Grace Ramsey.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Madison Solt (Salem, NH) earned her first win (1-5) of the season in the circle after throwing a complete game in which she surrendered 7 hits, 5 earned runs, and 2 strikeouts.
- Kaitlyn Kerstetter suffered the loss (2-6) after 7 innings worth of work, with 12 hits allowed, 7 earned runs, and 1 strikeout.
- Hits: Fitchburg 12, Bay Path 7
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two
- Game two saw the Falcons finish with three hits. Isabella Sousa (Charlton, MA) had two of the three hits for Fitchburg. Jessica Mueller (Fitchburg, MA) had the last hit.
- The Wildcats scored four of their eight in the fourth inning, which was highlighted by a two-run bomb by the pitcher Madison Sunderland and a two-run triple by Vera.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Mackenzie Leveille (Brooklyn, CT) suffered the loss (1-5) for the Falcons after going 2.1 innings, allowing 5 hits, and 4 earned runs.
- Sunderland got the win (3-1) after pitching the full 5 innings, allowing just the 3 hits, and striking out 4.
