Baseball Clips Buccaneers In MASCAC Action
Joslyn earns second victory of the season
Fitchburg, MA. – The Fitchburg State University Baseball team defeated the Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime Academy, 9-7 this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) action from Riccards Field.

How It Happened
Fitchburg State took a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of first when senior Jacob Hurrell (Haverhill, MA) doubled to right center, advanced to third on a single by junior Joseph Abt (Newbury, MA) and scored on an RBI groundout from senior Nolan Hills (Danvers, MA).
Mass. Maritime knotted the score at 1-1 in the top of third as senior Aidan Weir (Wallingford, CT) singled to third base and advanced to second on a throwing miscue, while sophomore Damon White (Buzzards Bay, MA) singled to right field to bring in Weir.
The Falcons regained the lead in the bottom of third with Abt connecting on an RBI single to right center that scored senior Matthew Kelly (East Bridgewater, MA) before Hills and senior Cole DuHaime (Warminster, PA) added RBI base knocks to make the score 6-1.
The Buccaneers cut the deficit to 6-3 in the top of the fourth with senior Jake Houston (Bellingham, MA) driving in freshman Colsen Loughren (Cape Coral, FL) with a sacrifice fly, while White followed with an RBI single through the right side that plated senior Michael Estrada (Covington, LA).
The Green and Gold extended the margin to 7-3 in the bottom of the fourth as Hurrell singled through the right side, stole second, moved to third on a fly out and crossed the plate on an RBI double off the bat of junior Adam Koza (Windham, NH).
Mass. Maritime responded in the top of the fifth when Loughren launched a three-run shot to center field, scoring senior Brett Velzis (Cypress, TX) and classmate AJ Pietrafesa (Harwinton, CT) to make the score 7-6.
Fitchburg State upped the advantage in the bottom of fifth with Kelly bringing in DuHaime with an RBI single to center field before Hurrell brought in senior Maxwell Kelly (East Bridgewater, MA) with a run scoring single to center field for the 9-6 edge. The Buccaneers answered in the top of the ninth when Pietrafesa singled to center field and eventually crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly right field, resulting in the 9-7 final.
