Field Hockey Falls in OT to Bridgewater

FITCHBURG, MA: The Fitchburg State field hockey team fell in its conference opener of the 2025 season to the Bears of Bridgewater State in overtime, 2-1.

FITCHBURG, MA: The Fitchburg State field hockey team fell in its conference opener of the 2025 season to the Bears of Bridgewater State in overtime, 2-1.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 9/16/25

- Score: Bridgewater 2, Fitchburg 1

- Records: Bridgewater (4-1, 1-0 MASCAC), Fitchburg (3-3, 0-1 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- The Falcons took a 1-0 lead from a penalty corner at 14:13 in the first quarter. Sophia Yates (Woodstock, VT) found Madison Butler (Carver, MA) open in the middle of the circle for the go-ahead goal.

- Fitchburg would hold the 1-0 lead until early in the fourth quarter. At 48:04 into the game, Bears' Abbie Zuber would capitalize on a Falcons turnover and drive to the net, finding an opening for the game-tying goal. Regulation time would end with the game tied at 1-1.  

- The overtime period wouldn't last long; at 1:31 into the OT, Bridgewater again capitalized on a foul, leading to a 3-on-1 break down by the Falcons' cage. Kallie Rose found teammate Samantha Souza trailing the play for her 10th goal of the season, sealing the victory.

- Brianna Gagnon saw four shots on goal in tonight's win, improving her record to 3-0 on the season. She made three saves for the Bears. Isabella Corcoran (Braintree, MA) faced ten shots on goal in the loss (3-3), saving eight.
