Field Hockey Soars Past AMCATS On Senior Day

Fitchburg, MA. – The Fitchburg State field hockey team registered a 5-0 victory over the AMCATS of Anna Maria this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference  (MASCAC) action from Elliot Field on senior day.

Yates and Cavanagh notched one goal and one assist for the Green & Gold

Fitchburg, MA. – The Fitchburg State field hockey team registered a 5-0 victory over the AMCATS of Anna Maria this afternoon in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference  (MASCAC) action from Elliot Field on senior day.

How It Happened

Fitchburg State opened the scoring just 49 seconds into the contest as sophomore Ashley Willey (Halfmoon, NY) gathered a feed from senior Sophia Yates (Woodstock, VT) and deposited a shot into the right side of the age for her second marker on  the season for the 1-0 edge.

The Falcons doubled its advantage (2-0) six minutes later when Yates fired a shot into the back of the cage for her sixth marker of the season. The Green and Gold pushed the advantage to 3-0 in the 13th minute of action with sophomore Samantha Jones (Uxbridge, MA) striking for her fifth goal of the 2025 campaign. The hosts extended the lead to 4-0 with one second remaining the first half as sophomore Leah Cavanagh (Leominster, MA) netted her fifth goal of the year.

Following the intermission, Fitchburg State capped the scoring with just over a minute remaining in the contest when senior Olivia Narkevicius (Phillipston, MA) received a pass from Cavanagh and buried a shot into the left side of the cage for her seventh tally of the year, resulting in the 5-0 final. 

The Fitchburg State field hockey team honored three seniors playing in their final regular season prior to the contest for their contributions to the program with the seniors being #1 Olivia Narkevicius, #6 Sophia Yates, #24 Samantha Yates and Carley McCaie.

  • The Falcons finished with a 7-2 margin in penalty corners
  • Sophomore Isabella Corcoran (Braintree, MA) and junior Hannah Free (Cumberland, RI) went untested for the Falcons
  • Freshman Julianna Stanger (New Braintree, MA) made 12 saves for the AMCATS
  • Sophomore Nola Patty (Ashburnham, MA) registered one defensive for the Green & Gold
