HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Each team was scoreless in the first period. The Falcons struck first in the 6th minute of the second period on a Devin Niles (Hatfield, MA) unassisted goal. They would add on another just 3:30 later. This time it was a Falcons defender, Declan Bronte (Melbourne, AUS), from Marcus Macchioni (N. Kingstown, RI). The Beacons wouldn't go away quietly in the period and netted a goal of their own at 16:22. UMass was on a power play and took advantage, with Kyle Isenberg scoring the goal.
- Fitchburg had an even bigger third period with three goals to the Beacons' one. Freshman Aleksei Filimonov (Saint Petersburg, Russia) scored his first goal of his career with the help of Niles. The Beacons would make it a one-goal game yet again in the 6th minute after Jude Jurtas scored the team's second goal of the game. However, the Falcons weren't done scoring as Niles found the back of the net for the second time this evening, totaling his fourth goal of the season in as many games. The Falcons would close out the game in the 18th minute with their fifth and final goal. This time it was scored by another newcomer, Tye Battipaglia (Cheshire, CT).
- Frederick Soderber (Harrison Township, MI) got the win (1-2) for the Falcons after making 31 saves on 33 shots faced. Alex Koenig suffered the loss (1-1) after making 25 saves on 29 shots faced.
