Baseball Splits with Simpson College
AUBURNDALE, FL: The Fitchburg State baseball team split with Simpson College today in a non-conference doubleheader in Florida. The Falcons fell in game one 1-8, but came back in game two, taking down the Storm 14-6.
THE BASICS:
- Date: 3/14/25
- Score: Simpson 8, Fitchburg 1. Fitchburg 14, Simpson 6.
- Records: Simpson (4-6), Fitchburg (4-5)
HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One
- The Falcons struck first in their first ups with Adam Koza (Windham, NH) delivering a double down the right field line that brought in one. This would be the Falcons' only run of the game.
- Simpson would match the one run in the bottom half of the inning on an RBI single by Will Carlock. The Storm would put up another four runs in the bottom of the fourth. That inning was highlighted by an RBI Matthew Florene triple and an RBI double by Dalton Ferrin.
- The scoring concluded in the bottom of the sixth with the Storm plating another three runs on two RBI doubles and an RBI single, getting the final of 8-1.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Joseph Hartnett (N. Attleboro, MA) suffered the loss (0-2) after going 5.2 innings, surrendering 10 hits, eight earned runs, and three strikeouts.
- Trey Castile got the win (2-2) for the Storm after throwing a two-hit gem of six innings with just the one earned run and 10 strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two
- The Falcons struck first again in game two in the bottom of the first. This time, it was Joseph Abt (Newbury, MA) who found the outfield through the right-side plating one. Simpson would take the lead back in the top of the second on a Trenten Kingrey two-run homer.
- The Falcons would then go off and put up a seven spot in the bottom of the third. Nolan Hills (Danvers, MA) continued his hot streak by bringing in four total in this one, but brought in two in the third with a deep double that found the wall in left field. Koza continued the damage with an RBI double, before the inning came to a close with Matthew Kelly (E. Bridgewater, MA) bringing in another two on a single to left center, making it 8-2.
- Simpson would bring the game back within three in the fourth with a three spot. Sam Campin highlighted the inning with a single down the left field line that would bring in two.
- Fitchburg would extend their lead in the fifth with another four-run scoring. With two sacrifice flies bringing in two to open up the inning. Hills would again deliver two more runs on another single through the left side.
- The Falcons would add on two more on a balk and a Joseph DiCrosta (Wallingford, CT) who hit a single to center field, plating one.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Adam Wholley (Londonderry, NH) got the win (1-0) for the Falcons after throwing five innings, allowing nine hits and five earned runs.
- Easton Dunwoody received the loss (1-2) after going 2.1 innings pitched, allowing five hits and six earned runs.
- Hits: Fitchburg 15, Simpson 10

- Fitchburg State baseball will return tomorrow to finish their Florida trip before heading north. They will close out their trip against Vassar at 9:15 am.
