Women's Basketball Drops Opening Game of 2025 to UMass Boston
FITCHBURG, MA: Fitchburg State women's basketball fell in their opening game of the new year to non-conference opponent UMass Boston this afternoon.
In a challenging basketball encounter on January 4, 2025, the Fitchburg State Falcons suffered a tough defeat against the UMass Boston Beacons at Parkinson Gymnasium, ending with a final score of 54-95. Despite the Falcons' valiant efforts, the Beacons maintained control throughout the game, leading by a significant margin as early as the half with a halftime score of 21-53.
The Falcons were led by standout performances from Stephanie Hart (Shirley, MA), who contributed 16 points and secured 17 rebounds, marking her as the top scorer for the team. Rylie Harlow (Hanson, MA) also made significant contributions with 12 points. Other notable performances included Aliza Som (Lowell, MA), who added 10 points and three rebounds, and Kaelynn Tanner (Lowell, MA), who chipped in with six points and four rebounds.
The Beacons, who improved to 4-8, spread the wealth today as four finished with double-digit points. Leading the way was Tatiannah Fevry, who scored 16 points. Sabanna Berrios contributed a double-double effort with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Both Samora Merchant and Hialeah Foster finished the game with 14 points.
The loss adjusts Fitchburg State's record to 3 wins and 12 losses for the season. The Falcons are preparing to rebound in their next engagement against Worcester State to kick off conference play on January 11, 2025, at 2:00 PM.
