Falcons Top Trailblazers in MASCAC Action

How It Happened

 1St Quarter

The Trailblazers raced out to a 6-2 lead just ninety seconds into the match, with back-to-back buckets from Hailey Peabody (West Springfield, Mass.) and extended the lead (10-5) with a layup from Maddie Teta (Troy, NY). The Falcons battled back with a three-point play from Juliana Davis (Templeton, Mass.) and a triple from newcomer Kathryn Hart (Ayer, Mass.) to take an 11-10 lead. MCLA retook the lead (14-13) with a layup from Kristie Zator (Windham, Conn.), but the Falcons closed out the frame with a 7-0 capped by a layup from Ephemian Bailey (Maple Grove, Minn.).

2nd Quarter

Sophomore Morgan Genness (Belgrade, Maine) and Zoe McGee (Enosburg, VT) traded three-pointers to keep the score at 25-20. First-year Aliza Som (Lowell, Mass.) and sophomore Rylie Harlow (Hanson, Mass.) hit from beyond-the-arc sandwiched around a jumper from Stephanie Hart (Ayer, Mass.) to extend the Falcons lead (36-21). Genness hit a layup off a pass from Kathryn Hart to send the Falcons into intermission with a 40-22 lead.

3rd Quarter

Genness continued her steady play in the third quarter with a three-point play and a deep bucket for six straight points to push the score to 48-24. MCLA stopped the Fitchburg State run with a trey and a three-point play from Teta to cut the deficit to 58-35 after three quarters.

4th Quarter

Trailing 65-35, MCLA's Karley Lucas-Mederios (Waianae, HI) knocked down a three-pointer before the Green and Gold put the game away. Bailey notched seven straight points for the hosts down the stretch resulting in the 71-41 final.

Inside the Numbers

  • Bailey paced the Falcons with a double-double scoring a game-high 18 points, and 14 rebounds. Genness hit double-digits in points finishing with 16 points, 4 rebounds, and three steals.
  • Stephanie Harts added 7 points and 12 rebounds, while her sister Kathryn Hart had 10 points off the bench
  • For the Trailblazers, Zaylee Ramos (Worcester, Mass.) led the way with a team-high 10 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 steals
  • MCLA shot 14-for-64 (21.9%) from the field and (5-for-26) 19.2% from three-point range
