Rams Race Past Falcons in MASCAC Action

How It Happened

1st Quarter

Tied at 3-3, the Rams reeled off ten straight points capped by a three-pointer from Gwendolyn Carpenter (Ashley Falls, Mass.). The Falcons countered with a jumper from Caileen Hurley (Whitman, Mass.)  and a trey from Allison Prentis (Mansfield, Mass.)  to make it a 19-8 ballgame.  A pair of free throws from Morgan Genness (Belgrade, Maine) cut the deficit to 21-17 but the Rams closed out the frame with a pair of buckets from Kelsey Yelle (South Easton, Mass.).

2nd Quarter

Green and Gold junior Olivia Almeida (Wilmington, Mass.) knocked down a pair of three-pointers and a jumper to get the Falcons within two points (29-27). The Rams answered with Yelle hitting four straight baskets to keep the Framingham advantage at 39-32. Fitchburg finished the quarter with a 7-4 run capped by a trey from newcomer Aliza Som (Lowell, Mass.)

3rd Quarter

Framingham State opened the second half with a pair from the charity stripe and a layup from Katty Haidul (Gilford, NH) before the Falcons could answer with a layup from Juliana Davis (Templeton, Mass.) and two free-throws from Rylie Harlow (Hanson, Mass.). Trailing 58-44, the hosts went on an 8-0 run with three-pointers from Kathryn Hart (Ayer, Mass.) and Almeida in the run. A pair of 3-pointers from Carpenter and Katherine Haselton (Greenfield, Mass.) moved the Rams to a 68-54 lead after three.

4th Quarter

A 3-pointer from Almeida and a lay-up from Stephanie Hart (Ayer, Mass.) keep the Falcons within reach (70-59). Framingham State capitalized from the charity strip adding six points and Yelle finished off a three-point play en route to the MASCAC win

Inside the Numbers

  • Almeida paced the Falcons with 19 points and 5 rebounds. Harlow chipped in with 12 points, 7 rebounds, a steal, 2 blocks, and three assists.
  • Yelle led the way for the Rams with a game-high 32 points, 7 rebounds, and two assists. Katty Haidul notched a double-double, 15 points, and a game-high 18 rebounds.
  • Framingham State shot 38-for-67 (56.7%) from the field and (5-for-13) 38.5% from three-point range
  • Fitchburg State finished 25-for-70 (35.7%) overall and (11-for-34) 32.4% for beyond the arc
  • The Rams held a 48-31 advantage on the boards
