Women's Basketball Upended By Bulldogs In Non-Conference Action
Harlow and Tanner combine for 35 points
Franklin, MA – The Fitchburg State women's basketball team dropped a 83-70 decision to the Bulldogs of Dean College this afternoon in non-conference action from the Pieri Gymnasium.

How It Happened
1st quarter
Fitchburg State raced out to a 10-4 advantage with buckets from seniors Stephanie Hart (Shirley, MA), Kathryn Hart (Shirley, MA), Rylie Harlow (Hansen, MA) and Caileen Hurley (Whitman, MA) before Dean rallied to take a 13-12 edge as senior Alexandria Paquet (Santa Maria, CA) drained a three ball. The Falcons responded with an 8-2 run, capped by a Malaica Guillaume (Everett, MA) layup for the 20-15 lead, but the Bulldogs trimmed the deficit to 22-19 as sophomore Abi Boutin (Rocky Hill, CT) sank a pair of free-throws.
2nd quarter
Dean went on a 6-2 run to start the second quarter with three buckets from senior Toir Viau (Johnston, RI) for the 25-24 margin before Fitchburg State regained the lead (27-25) when junior Kaelynn Tanner (Lowell, MA) hit a layup. The Green and Gold upped the advantage to 34-32 on a three ball from freshman Emma Adisa (Houston, TX), but the Bulldogs closed out the half on a 6-0 run with Boutin responsible for all six points to give the hosts a 38-34 lead going into the break.
3rd quarter
Following the intermission, Dean pushed the lead to 48-34 as Viau drained a three-pointer before Fitchburg State answered back when junior Aliza Som (Lowell, MA) registering a bucket (48-36).The hosts extended the margin to 58-47 on a Miranda Cournoyer (Millville, MA) jumper but the Green and Gold reduced the lead to 58-50 with Tanner connecting on a three-pointer.
4th quarter
Dean upped the lead to 72-57 when Viau converted a pair from the charity stripe before Fitchburg State responded with a Tanner three ball to make the 72-60. The Falcons battled back, trimming the deficit to 75-67 as Tanner drilled back-to-back three balls, but the Bulldogs secured the victory with Paquet hitting a free-throw, resulting in the 83-70 final.
Inside the Numbers
- Harlow led the way for the Green and Gold with a team-best 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists and two steals
- Tanner added 17 points, nine caroms, one assist and two steals
- For the Bulldogs, Viau finished with a game-leading 26 points, one board and two assists
- Boutin chipped in with 18 points, five rebounds, six assists and one steal
