Field Hockey Pair Collect MASCAC Weekly Honors
Yates selected Offensive Player of the Week; Morse named Defensive Player of the Week
Fitchburg, Mass. – Fitchburg State junior Sophia Yates (Woodstock, VT) and senior Jenna Morse (Leominster, MA) were tabbed Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week respectively as announced by the conference office on Monday afternoon.
Yates earned her first weekly honor of the season after posting eight points on four goals scored in a 2-0 week for the Green and Gold to clinch the MASCAC field hockey regular season title. Sophia registered a hat trick in a 5-1 victory over the Vikings of Salem State on Tuesday before adding one marker in 4-2 triumph over the Bears of Bridgewater State on Saturday.
Morse collected up her fourth weekly accolade of the 2024 campaign after registering six saves with a 1.50 goals against average and a save percentage of 66.7 percent in a 2-0 week for the Falcons. Jenna stopped two shots in a 5-1 triumph over Salem State on Tuesday before making four saves in a 4-2 victory against the Bears of Bridgewater State on Saturday.
The Fitchburg State field hockey team (10-8, 8-2 MASCAC) returns to action on Thursday as they host the lowest remaining seed in a MASCAC Field Hockey Semifinal, starting at 6:00PM.
